Being Epic!

Life can get too busy! And drag all of us down. I told Reggie and someone else this a few minutes ago on Facebook: You can be busy and not accomplishing anything you want. Or you can be picky on what you do and get closer to what you want to have in your future.

To have an EPIC life, FOCUS is critical! Over the past few days I’ve told what my days include. I’m obsessed with beating this concussion! And because of that: I will beat it! My activities, my diet, and everything in my life is focused on this single goal. Until I beat this: nothing else gets my focus. I’ve even set my life up to have my business be part of my beating this!

I want to suggest something to you: if I can do what I’m doing to beat a concussion: then what reason do you have to not pursue something you have a burning desire to achieve?

If you truly want an epic life, get picky on your daily activities. Everything stems from there.

Throughout this series I’ve covered a lot! And if you implement what I’ve endeavored to teach you, then you will have a successful future. Today, there are 2 more things that should be implemented and will help you have a better life. But, they are NOT easy. But are worth it!

Avoid TOXIC people and DON’T give up!

86% of wealthy people associate with other successful people. 96% of people associate with other people who are poor.

I’ve said this before: YOU ARE LIKE THE 5 PEOPLE YOU SPEND THE MOST TIME WITH. And it’s completely true!

Wealthy people have these 3 things in common:
1. They are focused.
2. They are persistent.
3. They are patient! Good things really do come to those who wait, but while they are waiting, they are also working on doing the daily actions that will get them where they want. They aren’t LAZY.

Wealthy people don’t quit chasing their big goals. But, those who struggle financially stop short!

Improve and Learn! 86% of wealthy believe in life-long educational self improvement vs. 5% for poor!

This is HUGE!!!

The most successful people I know INVEST MONEY in personal growth. This may or may not include college or traditional school. Throughout this series I’ve referred to Social Network Marketing Academy. This is just 1 of the ways I’ve invested in personal growth. I’ve gone to college, taken classes online for many areas including martial arts, coaching, blogging, nutrition, and other things as well. I have MANY more! The books are about diet, business, my bible, others about personal growth.

This doesn’t count books on my Kindle, textbooks from college (most were e-books), audible books, and books I’ve saved from YouTube.

I’ve heard people say “I can’t afford to go back to school.” Or invest in personal growth. THAT’S BULL! Go to the local library and get a book from the non-fiction area. It’s free! And you’ll see your life improve.

TV, TOO MUCH???!!!! # 11 & 12

80% OF THE USA POPULATION WATCHES TV EACH DAY! But beyond the numbers, is it damaging us? A research on this I learned this from the Bureau of Labor Statistics

The states that had the least amount of TV watched were Washington State, Idaho, Montana, Utah, New Mexico and Alaska which had lowest at 1.6 hours a day on average. West Virginia had the worst at 3.8 hours a day! This has me curious.

According to the CDC, Alaska isn’t as bad as several other states. It has an overall obesity rate of 25-29.9%. Whereas West Virginia has an obesity rate of over 35%!

Colorado, Washington DC, and Hawaii have the lowest obesity rates.

Why am I talking about this? It’s because of these numbers from 16 Habits of the Very Rich, which I got from John & Nadya Melton’s Program, My Lifestyle Academy.

These are numbers 11 & 12:
67% of the wealthy watch 1 hour or less of TV everyday vs. 23% for poor! AND
6% of the wealthy watch NO trash tv vs. 78% for the poor! Trash TV is another term for reality TV.

What can you do instead?

Here are some suggestions:
1. Get some exercise,
2. Start a home-based business,
3. Read a book,
4. Take up a new hobby,
5. Go back to school and learn something new! By the way, this is #14.

We are at number 10! WOW!!!!

79% vs. 16%.

What falls into this category? My response will surprise you. And it’s defined at “the action or process of interacting with others to exchange information and develop professional or social contacts.”

It’s networking.

Here are 14 reasons to do this!
1. You might find a mentor. This is really helpful when you are just starting out or starting over. Maybe you are like me and spent 20+ years working from home and are starting a new career. A mentor will help shorten the learning curve you will go through.
2. You may hear about opportunities that aren’t public yet.
3. Build lifelong friendships.
4. It’s an avenue to exchange ideas. And that will help with creating better business strategies.
5. It makes you more noticeable in public. Your boss will likely notice this. This makes you more stand out and as a result, you will be able to offer more.
6. You can get support from high-profile people. You’ve heard me refer to Reggie Cochran on a number of posts. Likely over 80% of my posts here. He’s high-profile. And you will continue to hear about him. It’s because he is not only my friend, but also my leader. He is very high-profile because he’s the project coordinator for Chuck & Gena Norris, a mentor to other high-profile people, and a best-selling writer.
7. You will have more confidence. As you develop more confidence, your life will inevitably improve.
8. Six-degrees of separation: this makes anything possible! This rule says that generally there are never more than 6 people between you and the person you want to talk to.
9. Finding a job: 60%-80% of jobs are found through networking.
10. By broadening your professional horizons, you will stay sharp and current.
11. If you are in sales, networking will help you with getting more sales.
12. Are you unhappy with your career? Networking will help you get into a new career.
13. Golden Rule: you help others, and you’ll receive help.
14. Finally, remember this: a good network is simply just a circle of friends.

16 Habits of the Very Rich part 7

We are almost half-way through this series! Today, like yesterday, will be short. Mainly because today’s topic is one, I’ve discussed previously a lot! And taught by Reggie on a frequent basis. Goal Setting! 67% of the wealthy do this vs 17% of the poor!

Why set goals? Here are some reasons:
1. It keeps you moving forward and motivated.
2. The bible suggests it! Proverbs 4:25-27 says “Let your eyes look straight ahead, fix your gaze directly before you. Give careful thought to the paths for your feet and be steadfast in all your ways. Do not turn to the right or the left; keep your foot from evil.”
3. It gives clear direction on what needs to happen for your life to be what you want.
4. It’s fun!

How do you set goals?
I have a specific strategy that I use that I learned from Reggie. But here are some of the components to it:
1. Decide what you want.
2. Write it down.
3. Make sure it’s SMART. Is it specific? Is it measurable? Is it attainable? Is it realistic? And is it time bound?
4. Create a dream board to keep you moving forward on it. For a refresher, here’s mine:

One of the things Reggie and I both believe in, and I learned this from him, is that until a dream board is created with images to motivate you toward reaching your specific goals your goal sheet is not completed.

16 Habits of the VERY RICH 3

What is #3 on John & Nadya Melton’s My Lifestyle Academy teaching on 16 Habits of the Very Rich? How often do you work out? If you are wealthy (or working toward it), you are part of the 76% of those who do. But if you are poor (and content with it), you are in the 23% of those who do it. Big difference! If you are battling an injury, or recovering from an illness does that mean you shouldn’t exercise? Maybe for a while, yes. But even then: there are things that you can do. Here are some suggestions I got from an article in Shape Magazine How To Exercise After Being Sick:

Start slow! Start with a light cardio then resistance training. Then add on. Start at 70% of what you were doing.

Reduce your weights and cardio by about 30% for a few days. This will make up what you lost while you were sick.

Build back slowly, even if you are temped to push harder.

What if you don’t do typical workouts and are in martial arts? The same idea applies. Talk to your sensei. And follow his/her advice. A good sensei will understand and work with you. You may even need to return to what you did as a white belt. There is NOTHING wrong with getting grounded again in the basics. Here are 10 reasons to exercise and be physically active:

1. More energy!
2. Burn more calories at rest
3. Improve overall appearance
4. Be able to withstand stress
5. Decrease risk of illness
6. Speed up recovery from injury or surgery
7. Keep focused
8. Build up cardiovascular endurance
9. Improve flexibility
10.Increase lean body mass

It’s known that because of Reggie Cochran, I’m a fan (if not fanatic, lol), of martial arts. Here are 10 reasons to learn one!

1. Fitness! It’s an awesome exercise program!
2. Learn life skills, including confidence, focus, self-discipline, self-defense, leadership and respect! For EVERY and I martial artist I’m friends with: RESPECT is the #1 reason to learn it. It carries over into every area of life.
3. Coordination and flexibility. You will get more flexibility and have better coordination as you learn this.
4. Hammers discipline. An article I read said this: “A sense of responsibility and alertness is promoted as you learn Martial Arts. Thus, with the instilling of discipline comes the knowledge of how to behave, act and perform; curbing any kind of misbehavior and delinquency.” (Ayesha Shaikh: 10 Reasons to Learn Martial Arts)
5. Learn a new art form. The wise never stop learning. This carries over into every area of life.
6. Self-confidence will improve drastically. Having confidence in what you can do will push you to learn more.
7. Law enforcement: Ayesha Shaikh said in the same article listed above “There are times when public becomes barbaric, taking laws in their own hands and creating ruckus on the street. On such occasions, the police usually control the crows by resorting to techniques of Martial Arts. Moreover, when sometimes unarmed officers are attacked by unexpected strangers, Martial Arts comes to the rescue and helps save lives.”
8. Mental and spiritual development. When you learn to focus, you will also learn mental toughness. It’s comparable to being given a challenge, and then rising to the challenge to achieve it. This will lead to spiritual peace. And allows for mental development. Frank Gutting said, “Martial Arts should be a way of life, not a job, hobby, sport but a part of you and the way you live your life.” I see this in EVERY black belt I’m friends with. Without exception.
9. Preservation of a nation’s tangible cultural heritage. Martial arts are a traditional art form. But it’s also plays a HUGE role in maintaining overall growth and development: physical, psychological and spiritual.
10. Finally, self-defense. There is a rise in aggressive behavior. Those people who know martial arts can defend themselves or in someone in need in that situation. A movie called “The Martial Arts Kid” by Traditionz Entertainment show this. And it’s a movie I strongly suggest you get. I loved it!
